Clarion Coughlan, Justin Blass & Simon Watson
Over the past two weeks, Justin's been co-leading quality standards workshops to establish practical guardrails for the teams to better own their end-to-end development process. He also wrote about enabling constraints to encourage his teams to look for improvements instead of fighting with rules. He's also been musing on how to help expand the team's views of what is possible by getting them outside their present context. Here are two different links that inspired him over the last week: “Shreyas Doshi: Better Teams, Better Products” and “Further notes on scenius”.
The big themes in Simon's work continue to be collaborating on user acceptance testing plans, and setting up the gathering of metrics to fuel data-driven decision making. He has also been working to involve a subset of super users in gathering and validating future product enhancements - enabled by Jira Product Discovery. Simon is seeking renewed creative energy through restarting his journalling practice. Here's a primer of the method he uses, which he describes as a 'palette cleanser for the mind' - Morning Pages.
Lately, Clarion has been engaged in customer interviews to gain a better understanding of customers' perspectives and needs. These efforts have served as a humbling reminder that some previously held assumptions or ideas may not align with customers' priorities, underscoring the vital role that validation plays in the product development process. Feeling a bit rusty in her customer research skills, Clarion also devoted time to reading various articles to enhance her skills. Atlassian’s ,”Turning Information into Insights with the Customer Interview Pyramid”, particularly resonated with its approach to sharing and publishing customer research within the broader team.
